WordPress Plugin : Gocodes

I have just installed my new found plugin. A plugin that can make a custom version of url pointing everywhere you want in the internet. It’s far better than tinyurl who gave you a funny looking and unprofessional url redirection.

With this plugin, you can make long url address such as “somebodyswebsite.com/great/videos/this-is-a-great-video/” shortened to”mydomain.com/go/coolvideo”.

Gocodes Is Very Easy To Use

All this redirection process will require you minimum effort, no need to edit .htaccess or making some php code. You will just need set few things from your WordPress Admin panel.

To use gocodes, simply download from here, upload into your plugin folder and activate it.

Start manage redirection from your Wp-admin panel, Manage -> gocodes.

Simply add your key and where that key gonna lead. Later you can access the redirection using “mydomain/go/key”

From this panel, you will also be able see how much hits count done for the link, i use this as simple information how many people have click through my affiliate links.

Who Will Benefit From This Plugin

This plugin will be perfectly match for :

  • People who want to shortened their link to an address, whether it is a link to their internal websites or link to some external site which has long url address. For example, if you happen going to share people, any web address, great videos, or anything that has long url, simply make one using gocodes, and tell your friend, it is in “mydomain/go/shortenedurl”. It can save time for both of you and your friend, and avoid wrong url.
  • People who sell or promote an affiliate in their blog or niche site. For some reasons your visitor will less likely to click through a link if they knew that the link will lead them to some affiliate page such as “afiliates.xxxxx.xxxxx.xxxx”. I am sure this plugin will increase your affiliate page click through ratio.

Some Tips

Cannot load gocodes

Remember to put the file in the “/plugin/” folder, and NOT in “/plugin/gocode” folder. If you put the file in a subfolder of plugin, you will eventually get “Cannot load gocodes.php” error like i did before.

Additional tips, you can change the go word into something you like, example instead of pointing to “mydomain/go/key” you can make it to “mydomain/recommend/key”, simply by tune the .htaccess file a little bit.

Check this part from your .htaccess file.

RewriteEngine On
RewriteRule ^go/([A-Za-z0-9]+)/?$ /index.php?gocode=$1 [L,R]`

Change the ^go to ^recommend, save and reupload your .htaccess. Voila, it’s done

If you find any problem whatsoever with the plugin, you can contact Matt the gocodes creator. As he put concern on his free product. I face some problem two days ago, and it’s fixed already by now.

Hey Hendra, thanks for recommending Gocodes! From your description it sounds really handy, and I think it works like a Wordpress bookmark! You can actually keep track of the links you’ve posted :) very cool! I think the best thing ever the creator have planted in the plugin is the ability to link to EXTERNAL sites, now that’s really something!

Yes ted, this plugin really a life saver for people like me who run niche WordPress website.

It’s ability to link to external sites while using ourdomain.com as base link is absolutely great! Actually in my research yesterday i found same kind plugin, but it looked like a bit more complex called “affiliate hide link”.

Hum… never know about WordPress bookmark though, will check it out later. As long as it is free and can safe time, i will give it a try :)

    Thanks for dropping by Ted!

The wordpress bookmark plugin doesn’t exist, heh. I was trying to say that having GoCodes installed is just like saving bookmarks on your Worpdress blog :) and you won’t even lose them (unless your database got screwed, that is). I’m sorry for causing the little confusion.
