Wordpress Blank Screen
Have you ever encountered WordPress blank screen? You type your address right, but found nothing there, you go into /wp-admin and the screen still show nothing but blank. What a WordPress user could possibly do if he/she can’t access the dashboard?
Few hours ago i had this problem, i was desperate and thought that i might need to reinstall my wordpress to solve this matter.
At first i didn’t notice what actually triggered the problem, because at that time, i were working on one of my post, tune my themes in another tab and has just finished uploading upgrade version one of the plugins.
I found out the problem after i have finished with all admin work and viewing the site. My site shows nothing, none, nada, null. I checked is it my hoster goes off, but no, nothing wrong. So what possibly happen?
The Solution
Thank goodness it is a small world we are living in, and there is google who made it smaller, so as usual, i went searching with google. I used the “wordpress blank screen” as the keyword. I got few websites help me with this matter.
- Somebody wrote that the page just need to be refreshed (F5)
- Somebody wrote that it might because of the themes, solution is i have to re-upload the themes
- Somebody wrote it might be file corupt that made the screen goes black. I have to re-upload all the files. Gosshhh…
- Somebody wrote that it must be the cache plugins conflict that give me the pain.
- One website told me it might the plugin got screwed up, what i need is just rename or delete the last plugin i uploaded.
I guess, the last one is the easiest one. So i checked my plugins, and found out that i haven’t delete the old version of plugins i wanted to upgrade, they are still there with different folder name.
Deleting the old folder didn’t took long, after that I reloaded the page (F5) hastly, and voila, its there as it supposed to be!
So, if you stuck with same blank screen problem next time, take my suggestion, try to remember and check where did you put your hand last time, try to undo that. Next, check whether you do anything that made the plugins screwed?
Always take the re-install and re-upload as the last option. If you still can’t fix it, try to reach Google.
Just my two cents, have fun!

You’re welcome! I should actually thank YOU for tagging
heh. Nice blog you have there! I’m sorry that I do not have a lot of time today to read your previous entries! I’ll do that by this weekend. I’ve read a few posts though, they’re definitely interesting! The post “Paying too much for your hosting” grabbed my attention - seriously, I don’t even uuse up to 5% of my allocated bandwidth
my visitors come in by a trickle! Even if they made the monthly bandwidth allowance into yearly, I’ll still use about 60~70% of it, that’s really funny.
I’m really flattered to hear that you’ve read through my blog posts, thank you! Anyway I’ve tried Wordpress Automatic Upgrade but for some reason it doesn’t work for me. I’m still happy with the manual, tedious upgrade process, as long as I’ve backed up my database, heh! Last time I lost one month’s worth of posts because I did something wrong and got the database corrupted. Gee!
Have a great weekend ahead!

About you don’t even use 5% of your allocated bandwith, i might going to consume some of yours this month, as i digg around your nice looking blog ;p
Be prepared!
You really know how to make blogger flatter ted ![]()
Actually it took me some time to write down that post, and the other post as well.
That “Paying too much for your hosting” post was based on my personal experience, i am a bit psyco calculating my online expense and keeping it low, thats why i can talk much on it, lol.
Sometimes i found out my writing is not good enough to be posted, and just cancel it. But your praise gave me some confident here
Please, read as much as possible, and please give a comment and critique if you find one you like. I’d be glad to be your host.
Thanks& have a great weekend ted!
Guess what, i have prepare one post as i have finish your “glossy-logo” tutorial ;p
Thanks for this post, I found it most useful when researching this exact same problem myself. I had the same problem when upgrading to 2.5.1 Having done a detailed study of the problem, I finally found the solution. There’s an issue with the upgrade instructions for 2.5.1 that caused me to make a mistake. However in the process I discovered that there are many possible causes of what appears to be a very common wordpress problem.

Hey there, thanks for leaving a tag over at my blog
anyway I’ve gotten that blank screen once before, and although it wasn’t the plugins that are kicking up a big mess but a faulty wp-config.php file, lol! I hated how my blog screwed up everytime I upgrade Wordpress or change my theme - most of the errors are caused by plugins though. So usually when I upgrade wordpress I will deactivate all my plugins (I think this is one of the essential step of the famous 5-step Wordpress Upgrade guide), and reactivate them all at once and then check my blog. If things do turn out wrongly, I’ll just check the plugins one-by-one to find out which one is the nasty culprit.
Nonetheless, Wordpress is still the best blogging platform for self-hosted users
cheers! And thanks for sharing this tip.
