Year 2009 Personal Life In Review

Year 2009 has been like a roller coaster for me. A lot of things happened and made a significant impact to my life.

There are two big events that made the biggest impact for me in 2009. First is my wife’s Arthritis problem the second is our son was born!

Early 2009, we received a great news, news that we have been waiting for. My wife finally got pregnant after 2 years in waiting and after going through a sad misscariage.

In her second months of pregnancy she got pretty bad swelling on both of her feet. She can’t walk and she can’t barely move her feet because of the pain. Our local doctor can’t give a clue what’s the problem and how to treat the pain.

We then decided to find a better medical examination in Surabaya (2 hours flight from my homecity).
Unfortunately the doctor in Surabaya can’t give a better diagnosis as well. Five days in the hospital and over Ten Millions Rupiahs paid, yet we don’t know what problem exactly my wife had.

We were terrified that the swelling on his feet will affect the baby she was carrying.
After several consultation and suggestion from friends, we decided to leave for Singapore. Thanks God the doctors in National Hospital University can identify the problem my wife had! The problem was called Arthritis. Thanks God with medication the Arthritis was cured. After 3 weeks on wheelchair, she can walk on her feet again.

The second biggest event in 2009 is the born of our son, Raphael Oliver Lie, AKA Raphael (Cured by God).
I am so gratefull that God bless us with our first child after over 2 years in waiting :D

Final Words

I believe everything happen for a reason. Here is one quote of the bible that I believe and living on:

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

Year 2009 The Business (Offline) Review – The Convenience store

As you might already know, aside of running an online business, I also run an offline business.
It’s a 2storey retail shop called HM- a convenience store- that located in a small city in a small island between Bali and Komodo Island. I won’t go in detail there, because if I do, it will be revealed that I live in a quite primitive area, LOL.

This year the brand awareness of HM has become much stronger than last year. I can see that from the average daily sales, and average number of customers which both increase significantly every month.
I believe it’s the direct result of “great service with great price” campaign that we run since the opening of HM at 2006.

The community involvement program that we run, such as Blood Donation working with local Hospital on October, City Fun Bike on November, Christmas event on December and several local council cooperation that we conduct all over the year 2009 has proven to give a positive effect to HM’s brand.
I can vouch that building a relationship and having some kind of community program can give tremendous effect to your company!

All in all, I say that 2009 has been a great year for me and my business! I hope yours too!

The plan for 2010

As mentioned above, the HM building is a 3 storey building. So far we only utilize the first floor for the convenience store. The second and third building has been used as warehouse and stocks for the convenience store.

In 2010 I am planning to expand my business by opening the 2nd storey for Baby shop, which includes mom and children’s stuff.

Since early December we have start preparing this 2nd floor, organizing and moving the stocks from 2nd floor to the new warehouse. Early January, we’ll begin renovating several parts of the shop and installing all the peripheral needed for the 2nd floor, Air Con, computer, etc.

On February, we can start filling the baby shop and March we will do the soft opening.
As for the convenience store, we’ll continually building relationship with the community, provide great service, and maybe run a small promotional program that I have planned since years ago (but I don’t have the guts to actually execute that plan, LOL)

Wish me Luck :)
