Wordpress Blank Screen

February 29th, 2008 by Henbima

Have you ever encountered WordPress blank screen? You type your address right, but found nothing there, you go into /wp-admin and the screen still show nothing but blank. What a WordPress user could possibly do if he/she can’t access the dashboard?

Few hours ago i had this problem, i was desperate and thought that i might need to reinstall my wordpress to solve this matter.

At first i didn’t notice what actually triggered the problem, because at that time, i were working on one of my post, tune my themes in another tab and has just finished uploading upgrade version one of the plugins.

I found out the problem after i have finished with all admin work and viewing the site. My site shows nothing, none, nada, null. I checked is it my hoster goes off, but no, nothing wrong. So what possibly happen?

The Solution

Thank goodness it is a small world we are living in, and there is google who made it smaller, so as usual, i went searching with google. I used the “wordpress blank screen” as the keyword. I got few websites help me with this matter.

  • Somebody wrote that the page just need to be refreshed (F5)
  • Somebody wrote that it might because of the themes, solution is i have to re-upload the themes
  • Somebody wrote it might be file corupt that made the screen goes black. I have to re-upload all the files. Gosshhh…
  • Somebody wrote that it must be the cache plugins conflict that give me the pain.
  • One website told me it might the plugin got screwed up, what i need is just rename or delete the last plugin i uploaded.

I guess, the last one is the easiest one. So i checked my plugins, and found out that i haven’t delete the old version of plugins i wanted to upgrade, they are still there with different folder name.
Deleting the old folder didn’t took long, after that I reloaded the page (F5) hastly, and voila, its there as it supposed to be!

So, if you stuck with same blank screen problem next time, take my suggestion, try to remember and check where did you put your hand last time, try to undo that. Next, check whether you do anything that made the plugins screwed?

Always take the re-install and re-upload as the last option. If you still can’t fix it, try to reach Google.

Just my two cents, have fun!

The Stingy Young Man

February 28th, 2008 by Henbima

The first post i made was about my blog long url address “blog.henbima.hokkymart.com/blog“, the hard and impossible url to remember.

The long url address actually was not my intention at all. I’d say the url going long “accidentally”

To know how i ended up with the long blog address you may need to read these complete story. It started from reasons why i purchased my hosting plan at the first time.

The reasons i purchased a hosting plan, it was basically for two reasons :

  • First is to make a website for my company “Hokkymart” and to have a @hokkymart suffix in my business emails
  • Second, to make a blog about my business activity, as a diary and media to share my business experience.

Then i realized that my writing technique as well as my English is not perfect, maybe i need to practice first, maybe i need to make a personal blog first before making any blog for my company.

Little Savings With Subdomain

I had to admit, i was to stingy to buy my own domain for my blog at that time. I thought, why should i spend more money (6-8 dollars/year) just to make a “trial and error blog”? Why don’t just use subdomain? Having a subdomain is kind of cool for me as well as it will save me money from buying another domain name.

As a proud of new-first time-host plan-owner, trying every feature my hosting plan has is fun, the mail manager, installing and have a look and feel to softwares i had heard a lot about, joomla, wordpress, phpWiki, you name it.

One that i like the most is, experimenting with the subdomain function. In the first day, i made a subdomains of hokkymart.com for me, my brother, my sister so they can host their blog or any online project here in hokkymart.com if they really want it (really, i did that and their name.hokkymart.com is still there). I even installed WordPress and Joomla for them.

So the “experiment”, i create my domain name from hokkymart.com to be henbima.hokkymart.com, to make it clear that it is blog of henbima, i add “blog” as a prefix because i don’t fancy using “/blog”. Now thats how i made my blog address as : “blog.henbima.hokkymart.com/blog”

Maybe that’s the short story of how i ended up my blog address with a long url, in short it is actually because i am so stingy and don’t want to spend extra money.

It Is Not Cool To Be Stingy

Later on, the more blog post i made, the more blog i read, i realize that it is not cool at all to have a blog sitting in a subdomain. There is so much disadvantages and limitations to set a blog in subdomain.

Moving a blog to a new domain is not easy process to do,i have tried to read and learn from some websites, still i am not confident to move my entire blog. I’d prefer starting a new blog here, and let my old blog stand there with it’s contents

I have learn now, that spending money in appropriate place is necessary for future saving.

If only i had bought this domain at the first time blogging, i won’t “lost” my articles to my old blog and maybe some juicy links people have sent me.

However, i had no regrets anymore moving my domain here. I should be grateful that i move to this domain right before i am more FAMOUS, lol.

Welcome To Henbima.com

February 27th, 2008 by Henbima

Greetings! Welcome to my new established blog.

As some of you might now, i already have a personal blog in blog.henbima.hokkymart.com/blog. Yes, it is not a typo, i have to admit it is a very long name for a blog.

Holly cow, isn’t it a very long name? Well, there is a story behind everything. You might want to follow my not so short story here.

After some considerations i made up my mind to buy my own domain name in February 27th, i decided to move my blog activity to this blog. “Henbima” in without any suffix, which is shorter and easier to remember. Lucky for me, my hosting plan allow me to host as much domain name as much as i want.

So here henbima.com is born.
